Vice-Versa: Will DeSantis Make Florida look like California?
June 12, 2023
Ron DeSantis has promised to make America look like Florida. The question is, will he make Florida look like California instead?
The wannabe President who once embraced Trump, then used Trump to win his gubernatorial race, and now has dumped Trump in order to further his presidential ambitions has created quite a mess with key elements of Florida's residents. The mess is not an easy cleanup, and if recent history is a guide could lead to long-term political consequences for the Sunshine State.
The socially clumsy Governor's extremist anti-immigrant legislation recently passed by his fan club legislature is already wreaking havoc in the Sunshine State.
According to GOP sources, immigrants and their families are fleeing Florida to work in Georgia and other nearby States.
The problem is so severe that Republican state officials and lawmakers met with Latino religious leaders to beg them to encourage their parishioners to remain in the state and, most importantly, keep working.
Apparently, DeSantis, AKA "the man who would be king", failed to notice that the agriculture and hospitality industries make up a sizable chunk of Florida's economy, and immigrants play a highly significant portion of those workforces.
DeSantis would have done himself a favor to read even recent political history, which indicates that California went from a definitively red state to
a blue one based on a Republican Governor's anti-immigrant overreach in the 1990s. Can a man that doesn't even research the last thirty years of political history have the intellectual curiosity
and strategic gravitas to lead the world's most powerful country?
DeSantis has promised that his Presidency would make the US like Florida; the more immediate question is, will DeSantis make Florida's electorate look like California's in the meantime?
