Trump Calls for "Operation Wetback" Mass Deportation

This week in the GOP convention, Donald Trump boldly unveiled his plan to duplicate and even supercharge President Eisenhower's radical “Operation Wetback”. A day after the GOP convention floor was littered with signs calling for mass deportations, furnished and paid for by the Republican National Committee, the presidential candidate,who happens to be a convicted white-collar felon, called for law and order not in the boardroom but at the border.

 

“Operation Wetback” was a program implemented by the Eisenhower Administration during the 1950s. It caused tens of thousands of American citizens of Mexican descent to be kicked out of the country, resulting in the loss of their homes, businesses, and families. Not to be outdone, would-be President Trump is calling for reinstating Eisenhower’s shameful program and promises to do it in a bigger and bolder way.

 

Policymakers and historians agree that Operation Wetback was a stain on our country as it caused real pain, suffering, and incredible permanent losses to American citizens based on their heritage. It's important to note that the biggest applause lines during Trump's speech were when he called for mass deportations.

 

While mass immigration to the United States, caused by despotic politicians and drug cartels, is certainly a policy concern, mass deportation is a direct danger to Latino families in the U.S. A mass deportation policy must be of our highest concern.

 

There are over 63 million Latinos living in the United States, most of whom were born here or are naturalized citizens. It can only be called disgraceful that a politician of any party could call for the reimplementation of the outrageous and dangerous policies of the 1950’s, and that the media absorbs it as normal.

 

Trump promised that he would call for unity this week, and yet he trotted out a policy intended to scapegoat immigrants and endanger all that share thier heritage and skin color. 

While the mainstream media remains silent on the call for mass deportations, LatinoVoterUSA.com will not be.
