The Scorecard: The Grocery Price Forfeit

Welcome to this week's edition of The Scorecard, where we're taking a look at the grocery price forfeit! Since COVID we have seen grocery prices go uphill and Americans are not enjoying the ride. This was an issue that you watched closely and we have the memory of an elephant and stubbornness of a donkey so let's check out: The Great Grocery Price Forfeit

Republican Party

What They Promised:

In true Trump fashion, we got a bold proclamation: "The price of food will come down on Day One - IMMEDIATELY!" Not just down, folks, but "WAY DOWN!" (Yes, the caps were his, and yes, that was a direct quote). The promise came with the typical Trump flourish - immediate action, dramatic results, and an assertion that he alone could fix it.

What They Delivered:

Well, it seems "Day One" has gotten a rain check. Trump's team is now forfeiting the grocery price game and saying that actually, those grocery prices, they might just stay right where they are. The new position is that prices are "already stabilizing" and intervention might not be necessary. It's like promising to clean your room immediately and then deciding it looks fine just the way it is.

Democratic Party

What They Promised:

Here's the curb: the Dems promised absolutely nothing. The Democrats have been as quiet on specific grocery price promises as a mouse in a library. No bold declarations, no dramatic pledges, not even a whispered suggestion about bringing down the cost of your weekly shopping trip.

What They Delivered:

Well, you can't fail to deliver on a promise you never made. It's like not promising to bake a cake - nobody can be disappointed when you show up empty-handed. ( Note to the bro's never show up empty handed)  The Democrats have instead focused on broader economic policies while carefully avoiding any specific commitments about your grocery bill.

So here is today's scorecard as we all continue to wince at the checkout counter:

GOP: 0 - Dems: 0

The Republicans lose points for the dramatic reversal on a specific promise, while the Democrats score zero for not even stepping up to the plate. Technically since Trump made the promise it's the GOP's loss but since they are at zero in our scorecard tally already they had nothing to lose. Unfortunately only our families do. .
