Miami Mayor Suarez Seeks GOP Nod

June 19, 2023

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has announced that he wants to be the Republican nominee for President of the United States.

For those of you keeping score, Florida is now submitting three separate names for the GOP nod, Trump, DeSantis, and now Suarez.

Suarez is the only Latino in the Presidential sweepstakes and has only ever won local office.

The Mayor, who claims he did not vote for either Trump or DeSantis in previous elections, is trying to revive the optimistic mantle often associated in GOP lore with Ronald Reagan. Suarez will find that most of today's voting electorate either doesn't remember the Gipper or only remembers his disdain for the poor. Reagan's "welfare queens" comments aged as well as Confederate monuments and are much easier to dismantle.

The waters ahead for Suarez's long-shot candidacy are as choppy as the Atlantic in August, as there are rumblings about how the part-time Mayor makes a full-time salary from a local developer. More on that later.

Of particular note is that the Miami Mayor has decided to launch his campaign not from Miami Beach or Little Havana but from Ventura County, California.

This raises the question: Is Suarez a GOP Trojan horse designed to siphon off and ultimately recruit Latino voters?

National Democrats need to pay attention to the Suarez candidacy, as we will here at LatinoVoterUSA.com.
