LVUSA's Scorecard: Ukraine Promises Edition

March 2, 2025

Welcome to this week's edition of LVUSA's Scorecard, where we hold officials accountable by comparing their promises to their actual deliverables. This week we look into the wild circus of international diplomacy, where promises flutter around like a dove that has lost its way, yup we're diving deep into the Ukraine promises saga. Grab your personal scorecards, folks – this one's a doozy!

Republican Party

What They Promised:

Candidate Trump came out swinging with the boldest of bold claims: He'd end the Ukraine war faster than you can say "covfefe." Day One in office? War over! Just like that! Because apparently, international conflicts are as simple as firing contestants on a reality show.

What They Are Delivering:

Oh boy, where do we start? Picture this: A meeting with President Zelensky that went about as smoothly as a cactus massage. Instead of peace talks, we got accusations of ingratitude flying faster than Twitter posts at midnight ( oops I mean "X"). Instead of the "art of the deal" turned into "art of the dramatic exit" when Trump canceled his news conference and said that Zelensky wasn't "ready for Peace".

Democratic Party

What They Promised:

Meanwhile, the Democrats kept it old school – you know, the whole "steady support, work with allies, actually have a plan" approach. No dramatic promises of overnight miracles, just consistent commitment to supporting Ukraine. (All well and good until you lose power.)

What They Delivered:

Here's where it gets interesting: The Dems actually stuck to their word (shocking, we know!). They maintained their support, kept those European alliances stronger than an espresso double shot, and didn't storm out of any meetings. Revolutionary concept: saying what you'll do and then... doing it!

LVUSA's Scorecard:

Republicans 0 - Democrats 1

Time to tally up those points, my friends! Trump: 0 (But he gets an A+ for dramatic exits) Democrats: 1 (Boring consistency for the win!)

For those watching this political telenovela unfold, here's the deal: International diplomacy is not a reality TV show, it takes work. Wild concept, right?

Mario's  Personal Bottom Line:

In this episode of "Promises, Promises," we learned that ending international conflicts takes more than just saying "You're fired!" to war itself. Who knew? (Probably you did.)

Remember folks, in politics, like in life, it's not about who makes the biggest promises – it's about who actually shows up to do the work. And sometimes, the least dramatic approach is the most effective one.
