OK Rep Humphrey Would Label Latino Gang Members Terrorists

January 23, 2024

For those who believe Latinos don't face discrimination, Oklahoma's state representative, Justin Humphrey, is here to burst your bubble with a reality check.

NBC News has the scoop on a bill penned by Humphrey, a Republican, that would label any person "of Hispanic descent living within the state of Oklahoma," who's a gang member and has been convicted of "gang-related offenses" as a terrorist. Humphrey, realizing he might have overstepped just a tad, has since apologized for targeting Hispanics and plans to tweak the bill's language to "undocumented."

Fentanyl is dangerous, and any death by overdose is tragic; however, between 2017 and 2021, Fentanyl played a role in only 579 of the 3547 overdoses in the Sooner State. But hey, why let statistics get in the way of a good narrative?

Politicians hungry for their 15 seconds of TikTok fame seem all too eager to pin the Fentanyl influx and the opioid addiction epidemic on Latino Americans and immigrants. Because, you know, scapegoating is so much easier than addressing the real issues.
