Families To Fall Over Hunger Cliff
April 20, 2023
CALO News reports that about 950 thousand Los Angeles County families will fall over a "Hunger Cliff" this month. The increased COVID food subsidies administered through the County CalFresh program have expired.
Approximately 1 in 7 Latinos experience hunger in the United States, according to a 2020 report by Feeding America. This is higher than the national average of 1 in 9 individuals. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated food insecurity, disproportionately impacting Latino communities. In 2020, Feeding America estimated that nearly 5 million Latino households experienced food insecurity. Additionally, Latinos are more likely to live in food deserts, areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food, which can contribute to higher rates of hunger.
The cutback will leave many families hungry. CALO News has the details, which you can read by clicking here.
