The Scorecard: Deportation Beyond Criminals

January 27, 2025

Welcome to this week's edition of The Scorecard, we look at mass deportation beyond criminals. Today we look at the promise that the mass deportations would only affect immigrants that are criminals.

Republican Party

What They Promised:

The Trump administration assured the American public that deportations would target only immigrants with criminal records. This promise was meant to ease concerns among Latino voters and others who feared a broader crackdown.

What They Delivered:

In reality, the deportation efforts have extended well beyond criminals. Reports indicate that many immigrants without criminal records are being detained and deported, causing fear and disruption in communities. This has led to a significant drop in foot traffic in areas like Chicago's Little Village, known as the "Mexico of the Midwest," where Latino voters are feeling the impact firsthand.

Democratic Party

What They Promised:

The Democrats, on the other hand, promised comprehensive immigration reform. They aimed to create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and address the concerns of Latino voters who have long awaited meaningful change.

What They Delivered:

Unfortunately, the promised immigration reform did not materialize. Despite holding power in the Whitehouse for four years, the Democrats struggled to pass significant legislation, leaving many pro-immigrant Latino voters disillusioned and questioning the party's commitment to their cause.

Todays Scorecard:

Republicans 0 - Democrats 1

As we tally up the promises versus the deliverables, it's clear that both parties have fallen short. The Republicans have not limited deportations to criminals, and the Democrats did not deliver on immigration reform. However the Democrats failed promise has not lead to what we see is the pending devastation of Latino business that is being brought to bear by the GOP mass random deportations so we got to give them a point.

My Note: Nobody should be surprised that the Trump's GOP is not keeping their promise on limiting deportations to criminals  The Trump campaigns numbers never added up as they promised many, many more deportations than the number of estimated immigrants with criminal records. as my cuz used to say 'ponte trucha" .

Stay tuned for the next edition of The Scorecard, where we'll continue to hold our leaders accountable.
